THE SOUNDS OF CYCLING
Songs were paired with most of the rides in the book to aid in evoking the feeling of the excursions. Try and figure out how each selection relates. Songs were chosen based on either the relevance of
the title and/or lyrics to the ride name, features or location, the origin of the artist or songwriter, movies filmed there, or as a soundtrack to the ride in general; just music that's good to ride
along to. I apologize to those who are into certain genres that I don't listen to since you won't find much in here. You have your own tunes in mind anyway, I'm certain.
Artists from the Southern California music scene through the years are well represented, especially the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, and other 60’s surfer groups; LA Sunset Scene groups like The Byrds
and Buffalo Springfield; plus LA's The Doors, The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, The Go-Go’s, Best Coast, The Wallflowers, The Turtles, Maroon 5, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Halen, Weezer, Linkin Park
and 30 Seconds to Mars; 50’s LA Central Avenue jazz scene great Lionel Hampton; San Diego’s Iron Butterfly, Blink-182, and Tom Waits; Orange County’s Jackson Browne, No Doubt, The Offspring and Sugar
Ray; Santa Barbara’s Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jack Johnson and Katy Perry (with Long Beach’s Snoop Dogg); contemporary latin artists Los Lobos, Quetzal and Las Cafeteras; and the classic country
